“I FREAKING LOVE FALL! It is my FAVORITE!” – every Midwestern woman.
But truly. Who doesn’t love fall?! It’s amazing. The brisk walks, the chilly mornings, pumpkin and pecan flavored everything. sign. me. up.
About 8 years ago I had a really bad October. I was severely depressed and moody. I remember when Christmas came that year I was so sad that I didn’t get the chance to enjoy the glory that fall brings because I was so depressed. The months slipped by so quickly that I didn’t even realize that I missed it. I told myself that I never wanted to miss another fall. It was a real life-changing year for me.
Every year after that I have made a HUGE deal out of fall and October. The first day of fall is a holiday in the Crandall household. There were times were I didn’t want to feel all cheery about it, but I made myself smile and get excited and each year my joy grew stronger and stronger around this time of year. I have set my human clock to believe that October is the first month of my year. I set goals that start in October versus January. Fall is that breath of fresh air that cleanses my soul. Fall means it’s time to smile, hustle, and make chili and cinnamon rolls.
Speaking of chili and cinnamon rolls. I was born and raised in Independence, Missouri and in elementary school each fall we would eat chili and cinnamon rolls for lunch with a stick of cheddar cheese. I realize now that this combo is strange but I grew up eating this so it isn’s so odd to me. Eric grew up on the other side of town and they didn’t serve this tasty combo in his school. When I started making this he thought I was nuts until he ate it… It’s freaking good y’all. I don’t know if they still serve this in schools or not, but it is the fall meal of my childhood and it makes my heart so happy every time I eat it.
I didn’t know I was going to go on and on about chili and cinnamon rolls today. I actually started writing to tell you about a Halloween cookie decorating class that I took last week but I STRONGLY encourage you to make this delicious combo. If you do make it (which you all should) please drop me a comment and let me know what you think!!!
Back to those cookies that I got distracted from…
I went to a 4 hour cookie decorating class with my aunt Steph last weekend. It was the most fun that I have had in a long time. The class was put on by Cindi from SugarChat Cookie Studio and it was marvelous!
She made the cookies for us and had the frosting in little cups for each of us. She also gave us her recipes for her amazing icing as well as practice pages for learning how to use the piping bags.
She had cookies and templates for us to use to design our cookies. It made cookie decorating look so easy! When I left I felt like a professional cookier. Steph was adorable! She was so serious about her decorating (as one should be!).
This class was exactly what I needed to kickstart the fall season!! It was one of the funnest classes I have ever taken! I can’t wait until I can take a Christmas class and a Valentines Day class and an Easter class and and and and and!
I didn’t make this one but how damn cute is this Dia De Los Muertos cookie!?! Give me all the creepy cookies!!!
I hope that you are having a fantastic first day of fall and FRIDAY! I will leave you with a few pictures of the progress of the new studio. It’s coming along nicely. The ceiling will go up today and we will begin paining on Monday! AHHH! It’s getting REAL!
Love love love love love you all,
