It’s lovely to meet you!

Well hello there!  Nice to meet you!  I’m Ashley, and this is my first official Tenacious post.  I am so darned excited to be here!  How about I tell you a little about me?

How do I know Kari?

Let’s see if you can follow this…  My husband’s step-father is Kari’s husband’s uncle.  What does that make Kari and I?  Second counsins in law?  Thrice removed?  No idea.  We’re family, is the point.  Also, we’re a little bit soulmates.  What I mean is that I believe God put Kari and I together to go through life together.  Does that make sense?  Do you have people in your life like that?  Eric and Kari got married about 6 months before my husband and I.  Kari and I got pregnant exactly one month apart, and our boys were born exactly one month apart.  How crazy is that?

Who Am I?

Christian.  Wife.  Mother.  Daughter.  My husband’s name is Stephen.  We have a son named Leo (Leonard, named after my grandpa who died when I was 10).  I’m an only child, and very close to my parents.  So close, in fact, that we are having houses built right next to each other (well, behind each other, technically)!!  My little family of 3 is currently crashing at my parents’ lake house while our new house is being built.  It’s been an interesting little adventure.  Super calm, super simple.  But I am excited to get back to Kansas City in a few months!

Room with a view.

Not a bad view for washing dishes, right?

I grew up in Topeka, KS.  When I was in middle school we left for a tiny town in Minnesota called Owatonna.  We only lived there for a few years, but it was so idyllic.  Halfway through high school we moved to Arizona.  I’ve lived in Scottsdale, Mesa, Tempe, and South Phoenix.  Also, I left part of my heart in Flagstaff.  Never heard of it?  That’s where I went to college.  It’s a little mountain town in Northern Arizona.  Well, it’s a little hippie town.  And a part of me will always be homesick for it.  We even lived in North California for a hot minute.  When I was 23 I started thinking of moving back to the midwest.  So I put in for a transfer with my job and it was approved.  I had been talking to a boy online and the day after I moved back to Kansas we had our first date.  Two and a half weeks later he helped me move into my first apartment and he never left.  He proposed about 8 months later and it’s been Happily Ever After ever since.

Only our third attempt at a cute selfie!

I like Amazon Prime, a cold glass of sweet Riesling, Bible Study with my friends, a nice steak served with Brussels sprouts, and date night.  My hobbies include researching mom and wife related stuff, telling my son not to talk to me ‘like that’, coming up with insane backstories for the shows my son likes, trying new recipes that are more complicated than is necessary for a busy Wednesday night, and thanking God for this crazy/beautiful life.

A little boy doing little boy things.

My buddy and me!

What Am I Doing Here?

I have the immense pleasure of being assigned the wide-open topics of ‘household’ and ‘lifestyle’.  What that means will likely evolve over time.  Expect plenty of recipes.  Maybe a few crafts and decor related posts.  I’m excited to join in on this journey with all of you.  I’m excited to see where life takes us!

Got something to share?  Leave it below!  Topics you’re interested in, your favorite part of fall, things you’re excited about, anything at all!  I would love to hear from you!

  1. Ashley,

Welcome. Based on your photos and hearing that you live by the lake, you literally have a tenacious trail at your feet. I, too, feel like Kari Jo and I were meant to meet. We are family by faith and the grace of God in the priesthood of believers. Big difference is I am old, but I love helping women to see and to reach their potential, so I love being a part of Kari’s tribe and look forward to any opportunity to provide introductions, a word, a lesson, a gift, a smile, a pat on the back and financial education as I am led to do so. The last one is my calling as a Financial Advisor, so I work hard at that, the rest, just seem to happen. I look forward to reading your input and to following you young ladies on the Tenacious Trail. Until we meet….Blessings, Laurie Dean Wiley
